Re: A few questions about boat project from a newbie

I have an idea:D
There is another thread about I guy having problems with a bonehead in his marina. Why don't you sale him your boat. He can put some fuel in it, ignite it and ram it into the bonehead's boat and solve both of your problems:D

ONLY KIDDING, ONLY KIDDING, I still like the C4.

Seriously, if you need a "project", your boat is screaming for its reincarnation. If you're looking to save money, I don't think this is it. Try making a serious list of items needed, piece by piece. Get all of the prices for the parts (your estimate of required parts). Then step back and take another look.:)

Lightning dont forget to look outside of your area for possible boats for example I can drive from my house in Kentucky to Kev's house in Floriduh and back for around $200.00 bucks round trip this is in a 2002 CHevy express work van getting 16-18 MPG . I know this cause I just made the trip back in April to visit familly down there . I say this as you might be able to drive south of the border and get a great deal on a boat and take it back across the border and still come out cheaper in the long run.

Think about it. You buy a motor from Joe smith for 3000$ in "running" condition. You do all your rediculous amount of work on your ready for the heap hull, you put in a really nice interior all the controls and gauges then you hang that Joe Smith motor on the back and fire it up. It runs great on the muffs in the drive. You load the fam up and head to the lake. You plop it in the water with your kids faces full of joy and excitement then you turn the key, she fires and you feel all warm and fuzzy. Then you drop her in gear and she dies! So you break your kids heart, drag it home and put a post on here for "what is wrong with my engine". You find out it is a gummed up carb that will cost a few bucks to repair. You do that then you realize that due to the gummed up carb, the motor has leaned out and scored the pistons. Now you have to rebuild the motor$.

Yeah, that very scenario has been playing through my head already...

haha, not nice man. I like it, but not nice... ;)

Yup, the cost list has already started and is getting more refined as I continue to look into the boat and talk to you all.

That's not a bad idea. I will start expanding my search in a while, I'm going to try to exhaust the local sources first though.

Nice price (compared to what I can find up here), Too bad that would be a 4,000 mile round trip. Depending on where exactly the boat is.

Although, I do have a buddy in Tn I've been meaning to hook up with for quite some time. That would be the perfect excuse for me to get off my rear and get down there...

Hmmmm, maybe fly down and then rent a truck to pull it back up here. Now that's a tempting thought.
