Hello folks. I am again after a quick bit of info.
I have an orange wire and a purple wire coming off the main ignition bundle. Are these temp and tach wires? If so which is which? If not what are they for?? Its a 1971 35hp.
Also is it a 50:1 fuel/oil mix?
Thank you in advance.
Dan.

1. Are you seeing a purple on the Eng wiring diagram on your Eng? My 1970, 35hp d/n have a purple (due to Mag Sys) vs other models with charging sys.

2. Orange shows on my diagram and it go to the temp sensor in the head.

3. 50:1 is the correct mix

4. Do you have a manual covering the Eng (one should show all of this info. There was a fellow allowing free downloads but I never tried it. I have a Clymer and Ebay CD. Our local Library has Clymer copies. The EBay CD beats nothing, not friendly and cheap.

I don't have a wiring diagram that's the problem. Just got the engine second hand (eBay) and have finally got to the part of the boat referb where it's time to think about putting it all together. Being my first engine and boat I'm a little out of sorts. I guess google to find a wiring diagram?

1. Please post pics of the Eng from both sides with the cover off. A good close pic of the wiring color assignments on the side of the Eng (to see if we have the same Eng).

2. Do you have a good Library close as a source of a manual? Have you seen the CD on EBay that covers the engine.

3. My used Clymer manual has been my best source of info from a local book store.

Good Luck! My 1970, 35hp was my 1st (1984-85) and it has been a good Eng on a good 1968 15' Raycraft boat.

The 35Hp model came with only magneto ignition. No tacho can be attached. The orange wire is as wickware says for overheat indication.
The sensor at powerhead grounds out if overheated.
The Purple wire is for charging indication (only on battery ign.models 45 and 55Hp). The Purple is attached to one of the rectifire AC terminals.

I will get some pics up later this afternoon. I never thought about that.
So from what you are saying Nordin the purple wire is redundant?
Does the orange temp wire need to be hooked up to a temp gague or a buzzer circuit?

No I haven't seen the cd. But then I'm in the uk and search uk only. I wouldn't have thought our libraries would stock it at all but I will ask. I think a good google search might be the only easy way.

Yes in your case the purple wire is redundant.
You know all Chrysler OB were equiped with the same wiring harness. They used the same harness for all models.
So some wires are spare/redundant on some models, depending on if the engine has magneto ign. or battery ign., attached with a tacho and so on.

1. It appears we have the same 35 hp Eng. Below is a link to the CD (more than the 5.00 I paid but worth it vs no ref).

2. A few Pics of my Eng and the CD I ordered.

3. You Have A Challenge, Good Luck! I?ll jump in when I see needed info I have used. There are tons I learned/used under Advance search (at the top), username is wickware.

Ebay?s link to the CD in the US:

Thanks gents. I know not to cut to many instrument holes in my dash now. Just a speedo and temp gague.
