a lil help please

I ran into a little trouble yesterday w/ my 73 25hp. I am hoping it is a spun prop hub but what has me worried is the milky lower unit oil. All the indications of a spun hub where there and no apparent abnormal noise came from the lower unit oil. If I had gear damage I would have heard clanking or grinding, right? It was just serviced about 6 weeks ago and seals were good. Oil was leaking out of the oil level slot so I drained it and it was not low and I did not see any metal but was yellow-brown.

Sorry if this has been asked before but I didn't find the answer in a search. I am still trying to get this thing figured out so thanks for your help in advance.

did you hit something ? I am not sure but I think there might be a sear pin in your prop milky oil should be white or cream color

shear pin is intact...creamy yellow I guess is better description of oil. I did not hit anything that I am aware of. low speed it is fine and then as the boat would plane rpm's would shoot up but not speed.

when the motor was serviced did they put new seals on the drain/vent plugs ? thats a good place to start put those on and fill her up with fresh oil run it and recheck your oil also that sounds like a spun prop

Duckhacker I don't think you can have a spun prop if its the shear pin type you may want pull your spark plug wires off put the motor in gear have someone hold the flywheel and see if you can the prop by hand ( spark plug wires off )

Even if it has a shear pin, the hub is mounted to the prop with a rubber bushing, and yes, it can be spun. Do a search her on "spun prop" to see how to test.
