Well since there’s been talk of how our ranks have grown recently I thought I’d do a little research into the Starcraft Forums.
I remember when I first started lurking around here there was very little activity, if you can believe that.
Sooo…here’s a few un-official stats (mostly my opinion) based upon the threads still available……..
Looks like the first thread was started in Dec 01.
There were only 17 threads started on that page and the page covers a period from Dec 01 to Nov 05. Pretty sad turnout don’t ya think?
Looks like from the beginning a troublemaker going by the handle of Chinewalker was here and contributing what he could.
The next page contains 30 threads and covers a span from Nov 05 to May 06. Getting a little more traffic.
I should note that most threads concerning What’s my Starcraft? And what size motor should I be running were mostly unanswered or futile attempts were made based upon almost no factory info whatsoever.
In March 07 Chinewalker (Scott) started a yahoo group for Starcraft owners and by May he reported close to 60 members. Good Job Scott!
I should note that still the majority of threads only contained 1, 3, 7, or maybe 10 posts total. Now there were a couple that reached the 20’s and 30’s but few and far between.
Another guy who’s been around for a while is DDrieck out in Casper, WY. I sold him a set of emblems last year so I know he’s still coming around every once in a while.
In 2007 there were almost 4 full pages of threads started but still with very low numbers of posts. I think sometime in late 07 or early 08 a guy named Terry fired up is website for Starcrafters called starcraftowners.com and the brochure pages were born. Also in 07 it looks like Appaloosa, Bigskiohio, and Joeyplumley started hanging around.
E joined in Mar 07 and I showed up in Sept 08. Right off the bat I started collecting all things Starcraft basically because I was danged tired of all the un answered what’s my Starcraft questions. I ran across a guy on ebay who’s father made a habit out of visiting boat factories on his vacations with family in tow and he had a ton of brochures from lots of different brands. I talked him into going to visit his father and rummaging thru the boxes of stuff looking for Starcraft stuff and he found several. I’ve managed to get my hands on 62, 64, 65, 66, 67, 69, 70, 71, 75,78, 84, and 86. Huron Angler showed up and came up with the idea of getting scanned copies from everyone and now we have a ton of them for use as a reference. The questions are getting answered!
This year we already have 21 ? pages of threads started and it's only Sept. That’s amazing!!!! The longest post to date turned out to be the biggest flop also. The Tinstock thread with 405 posts. The second longest is paparoofs’s 75 Islander thread with 301 posts.
Now I’m sure I’ve missed a couple folks who were here earlier but this is a start. Anyone want to add something feel free.
There is now more information available to folks trying to restore old Starcraft boats on this site than anywhere on the net and all you folks are to blame.
Good job!
