As most of you know i live and work around the ocean going from camp to camp doing repairs. Today coming back from Port Eliza on the west cost of Vancouver Island we had a Gray Whale breach the water and come out of the water about 20 feet in the air. It then came about 30 feet off our starboard side and jumped out of the water like a salmon would going up river. We guessed the whale was about 40 feet long. It was cool to think i was getting paid to see this and others pay big bucks and are lucky to get a glimpse of one. Just another day at the office:)

That's what I used to love about working on fish farms, especially remote sites/camp shifts. Eagles and ospreys fishing and diving just feet away, orcas, porpoises, seals, sealions, herrons, you name it. Nothin like runing a
crew boat with an entourage of pacific whitsides playing in your bow wave. :D:D:D

Okay, Puddle, now that you have made us all jealous! Would have been really neat to watch ...

I went on a whale watching excursion years ago out of Mass. We were lucky enough to see whales up close and the size was amazing..... watching the tail gracefully re-enter the water. Ho Hum..... Then it happened we witnessed a full out of the water breech! Wow! A great sight that stays with you.

Sadly..... in Vermont we don't get to see whales..... but the chance is always there to see Champ! :D

I am jealous.;)

great adventure. but i will stay where it is warm. we get the wright whales migrating of the cost of Jacksonville, spring and fall, great experience. i was downtown on the water front St Johns river, this past summer, must have been a pod of porpoises of 50 or more, moving thur the river.

this past summer also, when in the Keys, we saw something tearing up the water, across from the house. too the PWC, it was a pod of porpoises breeding. absolutely a terrific site.

That is awesome. I have seen lots of whales while out cruising in my boat, just off the coast. And while on the ferry, travelling to Vancouver Island, there was about 10 whales following alongside for a little bit.
I've never seen one breach the water before. That sure would be a cool site.
PNW is awesome!!

Hey!! Now dang it, I like the PNW just like the next guy, but we get the Greys, Pacific whitesides and even Blue Whales down here too ya know. No Orcas, but we gotta leave you sumpin' . . . We get the bow wave treatment every time we run over to Catalina. I've never seen an Osprey, and I'd love to, but Bald Eagles definitely work the Channel Islands and we get them in our local Mountains as well. I gotta stick up for the land of fruits and nuts ya know. We get beat up plenty regular . . .

California Sea Lions are a complete nuisance here, and cause all kinds of issues. Can barely get a fish past one, and the local fisherman still throw "seal bombs" at 'em when nobody's looking . . .
