When you plug up your vro. Is gas supposed to leak to the oil side? I remember reading something around here in a search I did....that the diaphram was supposed to prevent That? Gas from going into the oil area? REason I'm asking is...I took off the plug cause it was loose. I noticed it became loose cause the gas had swelled it up and there was around the nossel and in the plug. Another reason why I'm asking is....if it is leaking...could the diaphram be ruptured or have a hole in it?? Thus showing indications of a vro/pump that might not be working right??

gas is not supposed to leak to oil side
you probably have a cracked housing, recap oil side and run moter if its ok just leave it.
if moter runs out of fuel rebuid or replace pump

I would replace the fuel pump now. before it gets a chance to run a carb lean and replace it with a piston. the price of the pump is the same with or without pistons. I think they make a fuel only pump for it. but its the same for water pumps. pistons or not water pumps also cost the same.

Re: A quest ion about the vro/fuel pump

Ok,
I'm about to replace my fuel pump. I just got it in today and tomorrow I'm gonna swap it out. Pulse limiter too. One question. There is a 90 degree fuel outlet fitting that comes in the kit that goes on top of the pump. That plastic fitting goes into the fuel module assembly. I noticed that I can't get at the screws to that fitting. So...when I pull the old pump out... that piece is supposed to come out too??? Does that piece pop out? Is there an o-ring? Or do you simply remove the old pump by pulling and the piece disconnects. It's plastic and used. I don't want anything breaking off.
Also....what kind of lubrication should I use for the o-rings. Can I use my Yamalube oil? I don't want to put the rings in dry.
thx!!

The top fitting is the fuel outlet and on '98 and later pumps it is held in place with an oval plate and 2 Torx scews and sealed to the "VRO" with an o-ring and to the vapor tank by twin orings. It pulls straight out when you remove the pump.

Use any outboard oil to lube the orings.
