A search suggestion...

I know, everyone complains about iBoats search, I'd like to suggest a solution. The powers that be need to switch over to using Google search on the site. I am always surprised that I can find things 100 times easier if I just do a search on Google than I get form the current search feature on the site.

Just a suggestion... ;)

Have to agree with you Bubba. Most forums I belong to have very poor search engines. I use google as well and I find things way easier. If I am researching say, a Garmin GPS, I simply enter "Garmin GPS site:forums.iboats.com" and everything from iboats comes up complete with a little preview of the first post.

Now that is a good rule to have. However we were discussing neither a rule, moderation nor the management of this site. We were discussing the functionality of a particular feature. Much like the recient discussion about not being able to post pics in signatures.

By the way. Nice avatar.

actually i use a trick......if i am looking for a specific post from a member....i use there name....as well as the title....
it narrows down the field a ton...

i also look for words that do not usually appear....(stuff i remember form the thread. words like fugly hull or another stand out word.

if i do that.....the search engine hits it almost every time

I bet now that that avatar is getting all broke in and soft and comfy, he's not going to want to give it up.

.

No idea how you don't see that as a "suggestion about the management of the site"...The pic discussion was a "breakdown"...this is a an actual change required.

The whole idea is to avoid this kind of discussion in the forum where it can go sideways...and often does.
A good idea is just as good an idea if simply forwarded to a Mod or Admin.

Feb.1st 2012 I will be freed from the bondage of the Canadian flag...
And yet they will still be beholden to the Queen . . .

And even better, now we have you guys arguing over whether or not this is a rules violation. Personally I don't see how friendly suggestions are against the rules. The problem is when the answer to a suggestion is no, and then an argument starts over "management of the site" . . . ;)

LOL. Maybe that's a good thing. At least some are aware of the rules. Others have no idea there are any rules, or, choose to completely disregard them.... That, or we're running out of things to argue about! Nah.........

Speaking of rules violations, isn't forcing us to hang the Maple Leaf a "Political" Statement?

Maybe we can get ourselves out of this Legally?

I guess this is kind of like football. There are rules in football. BUT are we going by Canadian rules football, U.S. rules football, or Australian football rule?

But football elsewhere is soccer so what are the rules, not that I am debating them or disagreeing with them but this is an international forum as proven by your awesome avatar! C'mon February huh?

Awesome. Usually January seems to last forever. Ya know, I think we broke another rule(or at least 1 rule I know we broke), we hijacked the OPs thread.
