Pulling my boat ahead of Irene last night was different. I opened the chain locker and found a snake. Didn't look real close but I think it was a black snake. I put a plug in the drain hole right away!

Today I closed off any other openings in the deck and pulled the plug. I hope it finds its way out through the deck drain hole. I guess that's the problem w/ a self bailing boat but I NEVER expected a snake.

Freaked me out a bit :) Anyone else have this happen?

No but if one shows up I'm sure it will happen in the middle of the lake. I'm trying to picture my wife standing on top of my head.

Hey lipp, I seem to have lost the card!! It fell into the locker if the boys from the office want to get it they are welcome:)
I did look closer tonight. It's still there, and I'm pretty sure it is a young black Rat. It is VERY unhappy and I am way too much of a sissy to reach in and pull it out.

I did have the no mice thought though, pretty funny :)

I had one climb up my trolling motor shaft, several years ago. Scared the daylights out of me, course I was only ten at the time.

Had one pop his little head up out of my deck drain (which drains to the river). About 2 cups of straight bleach caused him/her to run for the hills, back out into the river. I hate snakes. Anything that move that fast and that silent without legs is surely pure evil.

Snakes are cool. When I was young I often had a snake in my pocket. My favorites were the little emerald green grass snakes. A couple of times I caught them from overhanging bushes while fishing. They didn't drop in the boat, I had to reach up and grab them.

They were very docile. I found one on my way to school one day. I took it out of my pocket to show it to Billy Walker and freaked Elaine Johnson so bad she fainted. Miss Williams took it away from me and put it in the Science Terrarium (sp?).

Yeah, snakes don't bother me. I see plenty of them while fishing or kayaking. What amazes me is that most everyone that sees a snake on the water assumes it is a moccasin when in fact most are just harmless water snakes.

Brent, Brent, Brent (shaking head as I type), I am with Lipp on this one:facepalm:. Just reach in there and grab him behind the head and release him in the yard to get the mice in your neighborhood. Snakes are fun and cool. The only ones I don't like are the agressive ones ... have had water snakes try to climb my legs while fishing/wading, have had them try to climb in my bass boat, etc. Not a big deal, they are not poisonous, but a pain in the butt, no less:eek:.

A black rat snake is a cool snake. You can calm him down and then practice catch and release. Get your man card back and reach in the locker after the little guy. He will thank you for it in the long run!;)

If you can't just reach in and catch and release, leave the locker open. You don't want it dying in there.

I agree w Tim Frank. no dead animal stinks as bad as a dead snake or other reptile. Their skin does not rot easily, and it stinks forever:eek::(:(

Have had snakes, squirrels, and chipmunks on board, and all were discovered out on the lake. The snake was the least of the problem; ever try to catch a squirrel in a boat? And once you catch it, what exactly will you do with it? Having a plan would have helped; I ended up throwing him in the live well without water for the remainder of the day. He wasn?t happy but, too bad, my boat.
