Dunno Phil, Kerryn is about to begin radiotherapy so I'll stay close to home for a few weeks and play it by ear.

Ray, My dad is retired, but he enjoys keeping busy and farming/country living is in his blood. He and the farmer are old friends.

When he is there, his main job is to keep the birds off the crops. His tools are a 12 gauge and a 30/30.

A flock of cokatoos will decimate an acre of walnut tree in a few hours.

I've seen the Cockatoos at work "down under". Wow! We think those flippin' things are cute . . . They're more like Pigeons or flyin' rats.

P.S. Ray, Look at the last pic . . .

Caught in another political conundrum. :D At present there are two unwelcome borders in my House. You guessed it Cockatoos. It seems my wife has a "friend" at work who breeds (and tries to sell) Cockatoos. She has saddled us with two so far.
QC, I generally don't link to pics posted as it takes too much time to down load. pictures posted as a part of the message consume as much band with as maybe 100 post, give or take. Oh well.
Aldo, will you be working on a full time basis in the next few months? Or will you have more time for more rewarding pursuits? ;) you have mail.

The pistachio growers locally used an automated blank cannon. Mostly against Crows

He has propane cannons but they are not effective anymore, the birds become accustomed to their repetition.

Don't the cockatoos drive you crazy with their squawking??

I don;t need to blame them for that. :) As you said you get used to it. A man will put up with almost anythig for the love of a good woman. ;) The hardest part is when you are talking on the phone. Since my cell phone won't work whilst sitting at the desk they don't intefere with measured time. Do I have mail?

I found squirt pistols to be very effective against household cockatoos. Once upon a time we had one of those screeching terrors in our house. After a month of the squirt gun it learned to shut up.

Maybe you could set up one of those rainbird sprinklers?

Yeah, I tried the squirt gun, but the resultant rolling pin bangs put an end to that. :savingbandwith: :rolleye(s):
Speaking or rolling pins, sure wish Stand easy would finish up his training and post some more of those gut wrenchers.
