Yes, if you paint it with anti-fouling paint. Expensive and sometimes hard to apply, depending on what kind of boat you have.

I would not put anti-fouling paint on my bottom unless the boat stayed in the water all the time.<br />Todd, you been fishing lately? Iam just north a little ways, near Harkers Island.

If kept for long periods sitting in the water bottom paint is almost mandatory to have.

If you are concerned about bottom growth you probably keep your boat in the water for more than a week at a time.If you do,then you should paint the bottom with antifouling paint to keep the growth off of the bottom. It works great. If you keep it in for less than a week at a time, you can probably get by with a good cleaning and a coat of wax before you put it in the water.Any longer than a week will usually cause growth to attach to the bottom and then you can have a mess.Charlie

Racefan, You did not say what type of boat you have and where you will be using it. There are a-lot of different bottom paints out there that are meant for different applications. I would suggest that you either go to a local dealer and talk to them, or find someone at a local marina that has a similar boat and ask them what they are using.
