i have a 1975 evinrude 135 outboard v-4. we took it out yesterday and it would idle fine and go into gear fine. but when you went to acelerate it would stall and fall completly on its face and would die. this motor then would start right back up and when you put it neutral it would rev fine. it does this only under load. can anyone give me any ideas?? thanks in advance!!
surely sounds like it's been sitting a while, and the carbs are varnished up. time for complete cleaning, including removing the highspeed jets, and rebuild kits for each carb. check your compression and spark.
Amen to the water pump rebuild. When I re-built my engine a friend said do the water pump. I thought why? Water comes out the pee hole just fine. He said do the water pump, it's about $30 the rebuild was $1000. So I did it and was glad I did when I saw the REAL condition of the water pump from the inside. I'm glad he got thru to me.
