Well I hear about people having loss of power at WOT. But that doesn't seem to be my issue. I have a Mercruser 165 and when i first warm her up and get out to open water and get to WOT she runs great. Then always about 5-8 min's in WOT looses power. I can pull back and try to get back into it and nothing. I dont have MPH on the boat but the RPM's stay the same just loose 8-10% of the top end. And I dont get it back until i let her sit for a few hours off and then warm her back up and same thing 5-8 min's of good power then she looses it. And the temp never gets above 160-165 so i know it is not overheating. Any thoughts?

Two thoughts on this one coil has gone bad, or you have a breather problem in your fuel tank.

Coil? The ignition coil? There is only one unless you are talking about another coil.

Never thought about a fuel breather problem. I'll look at that this weekend.

yeah, only one coil on that motor.

should have read like this: "two thoughts on this one: coil has gone bad..."

when coils heat up, sometimes they act funny, could need to be replaced.

one suggestion is to run the motor on a shop tank, thus eliminating the boats fuel tank all together. remove and plug the boat fuel line at the inlet to the fuel pump and connect a shop fuel tank with good fresh fuel, then lake test.
