Adding a larger amp.

Hello,

I'm looking to add an amp and a sub to my boat. Here is my current setup:

6-6.5 Polk DB651's. I currently have 2 of them running off of a 160 watt amp.

I can let the stereo run for quite awhile. I've never had a dead battery. However, i'm replacing the 160 watt amp with a 660 watt amp and plan to run my 2 tower 6.5's and a 10 inch sub off of this amp.

I don't really have room for another battery. This would be the ideal situation. I'm wondering if anyone has ran an amp this large off of the single battery? I realize I won't be able to leave the stereo on as long as I do now.

Any thoughts/recommendations would be great, thanks.

As long as you play everything at the same volume as you do now, the only extra load will be the sub.

Is your current battery a dual purpose deep cycle? I would replace it with one if it's not. You ought to be OK, but subwoofers can be big power hogs. I would keep a jump box on your boat until you've run it a few times and gotten a feel for how long you can play your music.

Don't let your battery get close to being dead. 12.0V is as far as you really want to discharge it.
