Hello all,
I know there a thousand opinions on bunks -vs- roller trailers and that the question I am going to ask may have already ben covered. However, I have searched the forum and can't really find a good answer.

Here Goes:

On my trailer, holds a 16' Aluminum Starcraft SS, the only support for the hull are 4 foot roller sections on each side and 5 rollers down the center. The 4' roller sections start at the transom and go toward the bow 4'. IMO, this is not enough support for the boat. I was thinking about adding bunks from where the roller section stop. Soooo..

- how long should I make the bunks ?
- 2 X 4's or 2 x 6's ?
- Would marine carpet work (like the stuff at Home Depot)?
- Best way to secure the loose ends of the carpet to the wood ( will use contact cement but then what, SS staples?)

Re: Adding Bunks to Roller Trailer

I have a similar trailer for my Starcraft 18 Holiday IO. It has rollers in the back and then bunks.

I would say 2x4 x4 long would work perfect. I don't know how your bunks are aranged but my EZ Loader has one set in the rear on each side That probably extend 30" and bunk 6' long after those towards the bow.

3 Center keel rollers.

Yes use pressure treated and the carpet from HD and glue and wrap carpet around and SS staple. The ends are just like rapping a gift bring over end and under board then bring sides down on top of that piece.
