I have a 1958 power head married to a 1966 18hp everything else. Is there a way to add electric start to this? The rope pull is very hard and I ain't getting any younger.

If you have teeth on your flywheel a starter and starter bracket and room under the cowling It could be done.

Your location ?---You need the correct starter for the 22 cubic inch blocks.----Some internet listing for starters are incorrect.-----They are not all the same.----Yes most of them came with the ring gear bolted onto the flywheel.

I am in NW Georgia. I found the starter mount online but it does not give a starter that fits. Not sure if I should spend the money on a bracket without a starter.

Simple----You look for accessory kits 1972 models.----The 22 cubic inch blocks were the same year to year.----Starter kit ( starter & bracket ) $331.00 part # is given ,-----They say that it fits from 18 to 40 HP.----I always thought the 40 HP starter was different from 18 /25 HP models.

As usual------What you paid for an old / discarded item has nothing to do with what new parts for it cost.----Be patient as a parts / donor motor may fall into your yard within the next year.-----Lots of these left the factory as electric start.-----Lots of kits were installed by dealers years ago.

Cost of conversion is always more than selling what you have and buying what you want

If you have a bracket for the '58, I would buy it. Starter should be easier (may need a rebuild). ARCO a possibility for a rebuild, or a rebuilt model if they have one in stock.

I got the bracket and starter from ebay, not too expensive. Got them mounted on the motor and found a new wrinkle. the starter drive only comes up to the bottom of the flywheel! Really wish I could find a pert number for the starter motor.

Try some graphite on the drive, unless it's clearly a misfit. Beyond that, need a strong/clean starter, and shiny wire ends all around.
