When we bought the kayaks the I noticed the there was only a small block of foam in the tip of each end. I asked about this and they told us that there was just enough foam to keep one end of the kayak out of the water if over turned.

These are only used for day fun. From the back of the seat to the rear is not ever going to be used for storage.

Is there any reason I should not fill the rear with foam?

Thanks for your time

Buy floatation bags designed specifically for Kayaks. They will slide in place while uninflated and have a long tube for you to blow them up. They work great, are cheap, and weigh nothing. Plus if you ever do want to carry anything, you can just not fill them up as much or leave them out. Check here:

http://www.rockcreek.com/products/listing/item2727.asp

Handling was my biggest concern.
But sooner or later someone is going to turn over and it would be nice if the thing floated and better if they could get back in.

jajeeper

This is why I decieded to ask first. What a great website! Thankyou. Problem solved! Will take measurements and order this week.

Next for a rod holder to clamp on :D
