CB412DE2-61E2-47AA-BD79-07AF1DCAEF2E.jpeg Alright, I have a West Marine VHF 585 that came with the boat and I want to add GPS for DSC. I think I can either tail off of the old Lowrance Elite 5HDI for the signal, or get a little standalone GPS puck antenna. Trying to figure out the best option here.

The questions:
-what cable end is this in the first picture? Is it something standard? It's the GPS input for the vhf.

-I saw a video about which cables to use from the Lowrance, the yellow and green wires. They hook to yellow and blue in the vhf receiver.

I suppose I can either cut the cable end off of the vhf, and get to soldering, or find the proper cable and solder into that.

Or, add a separate antenna. Can anyone shed light on the best way to go about this? Thank you.

Well I got to cutting and splicing already. Mixed my colors in the above text. For anyone who reads and needs this answer:

To connect a Lowrance fishfinder/chart plotter to an older VHF with no built in GPS, connect the yellow and blue wires from the fishfinder to the yellow and green wires of the VHF radio. Y/Y B/G

Works like a charm, radio now shows coordinates.
