Re: Adding Permanent Rod Holders To My Boat
I pull 6 rods offshore and up to 16 rods inshore if running planer boards for the Striped ones. I have 6 flush mount holders (4 x 30 degrees and 2 X by 0 degrees on the transom) and 6 heavy duty clamp-on holders.
The 2 x 0 degree where installed to accommodate a pair of down riggers. The for forward gunnel mounts are angled 30 degrees off the center to accomdate rods being fished off the outriggers.
The other 2 gunnels go straight back. If running planer boards I drop a pair of tridents in the fforward gunnel holders which points the rods toward the planer boards and if I?m deep trolling I swap out the tridents for a set of right angle mounts. All and all I find it to be a very versatile setup with nothing protruding above the gunnels when not in use.
I looked at the Titeloc website and can't find anything that I would consider heavy enough to trust holding a expensive combo with a #50-#100 Bluefin (not to mention those #300 "Charlies" that show up from time to time)on the end of the line. Not sure I?d even trust them for Striper fishing to tell you the truth.
