The unit you bought is for the older models.
In 90 they started using Mercury style transom clamps and mounting hardware, which you have.
You can change the clamps and the unit should work.
Even in fresh water the mid section ain't gonna be easy to take apart.
Deep creep, PB Blaster WD-40 or any penetrating oil. Small torch will be necessary too.
The trim cyl. when activated hits on a bracket that goes on the mid section, it stops the soft aluminum
from being chewed up.Make sure you get this.
I can't find it in the parts diagrams, maybe someone has a pic or the part#

think it might be easier to get the tilt/trim with correct bracket?

otherwise what i guess i'll have to do is hoist the engine up, remove the current bracket, put on the new bracket and also get the part im missing that stops the aluminum from getting chewed up?

The harness in the pic. is the set-up for a merc. application but can be used if modified. a relay kit is ultimately the same

The entire Swivel-bracket is not hard to replace;

Hoist up motor -Trim-up assembly for access to the two bottom bolts
Remove cover- clamp vise-grip on swivel-shaft and hammer on vise-grip till shaft comes down & clear top passage.
Install other assembly by tapping swivel-shaft to required height and re-install bottom clamp
