I'm sure it's just me but... I just received my US-News for September 1st and there's only 18 pages out of 120 that don't have ads on them. I tune my AM radio (yes, there is such a radio) and the real program only occupies about 25% of the time, the rest is spent in ads. Even a lot of the time is spent telling me what station I'm listening to... Anyone else notice this? Jim Reed.

Thats how radios stay in bus...I do alot of radio Advertising...60 second spots run anywhere from 40 to 60 bucks a spot on the more popular stations. On the AM side 10 to 12 for sixty..TV is no different..how many commercials do you see say in a half hour?..newspapers charge by the inch and if you add color it gets worse...I won't even go into the cost on yellow pages cause it may scare you....

Mellowyellow, I guess the biggest thing I have with "taping" a good movie is the running base line advertising going on for tennis matches, sporting events, breaking news, etc. Later, when I replay the movie, people ask "what is that stuff?" It sure interferes with a great movie like Aliens or whatever... Jim Reed

That is the reason I have dropped all subscriptions to any magazines. After some nearly 30 years of reading sporting magazines there is very little NEW information in them. A majority are just stories of someone elses adventures (paid for by the advertizers). That in itself wouldn't be so bad but the new generation of writers can't even tell a decent story it like the writers of old. most magazine are little better than catalogs with a few articles thrown in.

funny I was wondering the same thing last week I think all the ads are obviously there to help pay the bills. SO the owner needs some more money just run more ads. Therei s even software out there that takes a program and filters out the unwanted frames giving an additional time period for more commercials

I can't stand ads...Of just about any nature.

How many of you actually go buy something because of an ad you seen or heard?

The ads lately are so lame and stupid, I can't believe they paid real money for people to make them. And I have to wonder if some of these advertisers actually went to college to learn how to advertise? LOL!

I realize they help pay the bills, but come on...You keep shoving stuff down a person's throat long enough, you will turn them away.

H.

Yea, when you get all those ads in the mail, With a return addressed envelopes, I like to put all the ads in the return envelope, (costs them money to throw them away) and write "In God we trust" across the envelope, just for kicks. :D

I also tape shows, I hate commercials. Also speaking of frivalous (can't spell) lawsuits, when is anyone going to come up with the bright idea of a class action law suit against commercials? You can bearly hear an old movie, when the commercials come on they blow you out the house    Sue for loss of hearing!

Just one of GodsBeast's

You'd think they would GET A CLUE?
How many of you run an ad blocker?
I use Zone Alarm. It stops them all dead cold. No pop-ups...No nothing. Protects a little too much sometimes!

You'd think they would realize that most consumers have ways of stopping their unwanted garbage. Now the consumer has the law on their side (no call list for example)

I also did the consumer opt-out thing. I rarely get any junk mail.

Great idea to send the advertisements back to them! LOL!

Maybe call them and try to sell them their own stuff?

:)

I use to have a finger/trace program that you could find out geographically where the sender was and his IP. It was fun to ping the H-E_L-L out of them with a ping bot and flood their IP.

It's a bit tougher to do that now...Oh well, fun while it lasted!

H.

Re: Ads,ads,ads.........

Last season the tv networks told the makers of tv shows that they had to reduce the shows content from something like 45 minutes to 38 minutes during a one hour show to allow for more commercials. I like listening to talk radio but can not stomach the stupid commercials for Diet aids and abacor hair loss supplements and sea silver vitimans that will make me look years younger. Got a CD player for my car and listen to books on tape from the library. I come here to catch up on the news because the news on TV is either made up or just stupid.

Well fellows like it or not, they are just like iboats, the advertisers pay to keep this site going just like a lot of other sites and radio/tv.

As far as a pop-up blocker, I use pop-up stopper that you can download from www.panicware.com for free.
