Just a note but you MIGHT want to watch how you phrase things in the future. I say this because by the way you phrased that, if he did do what you suggested, YOU could be facing charges allong side him. Advising someone to commit a criminal act is not covered by the first amendment (even on message boards), and there's nothing anonymous about the internet. Just something you might want to keep in mind for future reference.

Man ! talk about the Black Hole Of Fun!!! It's a couple a times a year, if stuff falls in your yard ask him to Please pick it up. This year pull out a lawn chair Pour yourself a drink and enjoy. The fact that this is a free Nation means being free from others telling you hat you can and cannot do on your own D**n property. Don't sweat the small stuff.

You could always go talk to him. Sometimes just expressing the idea you are concerned about fires might get him to reconsider what fireworks he sets off. Tell him you enjoy his display, but remind him of the fire issue. Just put the dog in the garage, my dads dog goes nuts too and we have to lock her up.

Fireworks are banned around here and the whole state I guess.
Sparklers and the like are ok, but no firecrackers even.
If they catch you, $200 fine and they take all your stuff, no questions asked.

Not at New Year's, but on July 4...

Our cottage is on a small lake (about 1.25 mile diameter). On the 4th, some guy 1/4 the way around the lake from us takes his pontoon out for the fireworks. Not to watch but to launch from. In the dark I'm not positive, but it appears he has launch tubes on the perimeter of his boat, but he does stay a couple feet from his gas tank.

We've been waiting for some bigger pyrotechnics (including aluminum pontoon shrapnel) but it hasn't happened ... yet.

I know you mean well but I doubt this guy cares a whit about the OP's concerns. He's going to do what he wants to do and thinks he will never be the one to blow his hand off or cause a major fire. Talking to these sorts is generally a waste of time because they have managed to be lucky enough not to have an incident for how ever long they have done it in the past, and simply use that as logic to argue that temporarily storing and shooting large amounts of fireworks, is ok.

i doubt he would get away with it if he lived in a large texas city. fireworks in town is a BIG NO-NO!!

but the latin influence still likes to pop of their roscoes on 4th and 1st...

Thanks for the advice. Im not a jerk kind of guy but this same neighbor went and got a block party permit from the city last july 4 which allowed him to block the main entrance to a neighborhood of over 150 homes.(everyone had to drive up one block and circle back in order to even enter or leave for over 6 hours. The people who were at this so called block party DIDNT EVEN LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.I think I will leave him a message some way saying . "Please dont discharge any illegal firework projectiles due to safety and fire concerns" Then when the first one goes off I will call 911 and ask for a fire truck to be sent to this "emergency" The fire dep has to come and make a report, the cops dont. that should solve it.....I bet the 5 or 6 firemen who have to respond will make dang sure they dont have to come back....

911 in my opinion may be a little extreme as you may be taking these guys away from life threatening situations if you call 911. All though I agree that if they were called out to the seen then it would probably stop the problems, especially if you all are still in a drought.

We had some guys start a forest fire by shooting roman candles into the woods off of our local highway 59 and it nearly caught the whole side of the mountain on fire, you could smell the smoke for a while and actually see the smoke at times, I just hope they caught these guys that started that mess, but it they were on the highway when they done this they are most likely gone and will never be caught.

Or they'll sit back and enjoy the show 'til there's a real emergency. Be careful when you call them, if you tell them there's an emergency when there's not, you could wind up paying around $1000 per vehicle that was dispatched. On the other hand, if he actually starts a fire, he could wind up paying that, so... might be another reason for him to move his display elsewhere. Normally homeowners ins. would pay, but I don't think they would since he's shooting illegal fireworks, but ultimately it's up to the individual insurer.

You might try suggesting a specific place to move his display to, such as a rock quarray. Those are great for shooting fireworks off in.

In Texas they would definately get away with it... you're thinking of New York...

... and ... hasn't Texas been facing the biggest floods in over 100 years? Far from a drought... I doubt the fire dept. would even care there. You might get the 'ol call someone who gives a d--n when you call them.

I know its new years eve but I have a neighbor that for the last 2 years has discharged the LARGE ROCKET fireworks on the 4th of July and on new years eve. Right now we have a severe drought and there are stll plenty of dry leaves around . The police offer NO HELP. ...HELP ME!

I was thinking the same thing.
Heck,They advertise the illegal fireworks on tv here in Charlotte.Just drive 10 minutes into South Carolina and buy anything you want.
The local cops have way more important things to do.

You would need to live here in Charlotte to fully understand. For example ,How many thousands of dollers of overtime pay is it going to cost us tax payers for them to have the cops patrol uptown on new years eve? They are giving hundreds of off duty cops extra money for the dog and pony show they plan for that night.........now there is where the cops are wasting time and my money...Im sick of the local cops and there political leaders picking and chosin what they want to do.and who they want to enforse the laws on. I better stop before I get into a taboo topic....

Because it isn't petty. We are not talking about someone blowing off some firecrackers and small bottle rockets. He is bringing a significant amount of explosives into a residential neighborhood and, in all probability, is breaking a number of laws. He is also exposing his neighbors to significant dangers and has no right to do so. On the other hand, the OP has every right to go to his elected officials and demand that this activity be stopped. He owes his neighbor nothing, morally or legally. Additionally, he would be entirely correct in calling 911 because storage and discharge of that level of fireworks does present a very real danger to the neighborhood.

Being concerned about the fire danger is not being petty. By the time a fire department can respond, significant damage will occur. That is the main reason that fireworks have been banned in most locals.

I was a volunteer fireman for 16 years and my department always dreaded the Fourth as we knew we were going to be busy.

I will thoroughly stand for anyones right to damage his health, burn his property down or explode it into pieces, but the second that risk crosses his property line then I will try to put an end to his "fun".

Here in the Nations we have what are called "red flag" days where any outdoor fire is prohibited. Even using a charcoal grill can get you arrested, let alone fireworks, yet every year some moron will burn down his neighbors property because; "I didn't think it would get out of hand--it didn't last year!"

Petty is when the guy across town looses his house. Righteous indignation is when the house next to you goes up in flames. "Why didn't they stop that?" is when it is your house.
