Howdy,

As some may know, I bought my first boat a mid 80's Landau Jon. I have not put it on the water yet, as my motor isn't ready to be picked up from it's tune up/repair.

Today while cleaning her up. I noticed a "hair line" crack about 3 inches long, on the front of the boat, almost dead center and on top of the seem where Landau welded when manufactured. I can see day light thru it so I know it's open. I am not sure but, (haven't been on the water with it yet) I believe it would be below the water line. Either way I want it repaired. Here is where I am looking for advice on what to do.

Should I take it somewhere to have it welded and if so, how common is it to find a place that can weld aluminum? Is it really expensive to weld aluminum, what kind of cost are we talking to do it? Or do you think I'd be pretty safe using some product I can buy and do it myself? This is my first boat and don't have much of an idea on the whole welding aluminum thing.

Thank You for any feedback in helping me figure what to do.

If your waiting for your motor i would get on the phone and call some welding shops and ask for a ruff est.

might as well fix it right. IMO

Take the guy fishing after he fixes it. Might give you a REAL good price :)

Absolutely get it welded.

You might get charged $20-$50 bucks for a short crack but you will never worry about that spot again.

Inspect the rest of the hull carefully ;)
