Advice needed on Christine 1990-15 HP 2-stroke that was never actually used but has the original gear oil

I'm trying to buy this motor but the guy just admitted to me he took it out fishing with the original 30-year-old gear oil.

He bought it at an estate sale and took it to a boat dealership the guy at the dealership said to replace the impeller because might be cracked due to being so old. So that's all the guy did he replaced the impeller. You would think he would replace the gear oil.

My question is should I be leery about buying this motor now that I know it has been used under load with 30 plus year gear oil? the guys honest I don't believe he used it extensively but still he took it out fishing and used it under load.

You are guessing. You have no idea how old the lube is. The seller is not the original owner.

If you buy it, drain the lube and check for water mixed in. Replace seals if needed, put in the new lube and go fishing.

So my question is if somebody runs a motor under load that has 30-year-old gear oil what could the consequences be. Again I believe the guy that he only took it out fishing one time.

Oil that has been in a gearcase for 30 years works the same as if you put it in yesterday.-----The gearcase is a sealed container.

If you read posts before hitting reply, that doesn't happen. Besides, I thought you were equating the motor to a 1958 Plymouth Fury.
