Advice on bearing carrier shim bolts

I've reinstalled my bearing carrier and I have a question about thread locker...

My climbers manual says to use a drop of the Evinrude gasket compound on the threads for the bolts that hold the shims on. The shims keep the bearing carrier from working its way out.

The anode bolts obviously had blue thread locker on them originally, I don't notice anything on the original shim bolts.
Is this a typo or do what it says? The gasket compound is supposed to be non-hardening, so I can understand its use.

This is a 93 40HP Evinrude.

I can't remember having one of those apart, but I would think the gasket compound would be used to seal the threads to prevent any oil leakage.

I went ahead and used the gasket compound. There is no oil to leak since the bolts do not go into the housing itself, etc. I think they recommended that since the bolts are so infrequently removed, the gasket compound helps prevent any corrosion.

The OMC manual says to use OMC Nut Lock which hold the bolts in better. I still say those "Climbers" and Seloc manuals Suck.

If they were torqued properly it should be okay. And yes, Clymers and Seloc still Suck. LOL
