Re: Advice on boat purchase please.

Is this the type of boat you want? It is a GFBL go-fast-be-loud speed racing type boat, the TRS drive lends even more to that description. I am not sure of your experience level in boating, this one would be two hands-full for a first boat.

The fuel line leak descripton is pretty vague, and could really end up being a problem with the tank.

If it runs good and everything works, like bilge pumps, lights, accessories, no rotting pieces, cabin is nice and comfortable, and cockpit seating is in good shape then $3000 is a good price. But a 1977 model anything is aging and if has not been maintained or even restored along the way at some point then it will be probably end up being a money pit.

Looks like a Superboat brand to me. If it is a Superboat, runs and has no structural issues, 3 grand is a bargain. I've seen similar vintage/size/power Superboats listed for 5 times that price.

The gas leak may be more involved than just a fuel line. A boat that old is not likely to have a plastic tank and would typically have a fiberglass or aluminum tank. Ethanol in modern gas will destroy a glass tank. Aluminum tanks often corrode from the outside if they are in constant contact with a wet bulkhead or stringer.

only reason I consider buying from him is because I have known him for a long time and know he would never try to screw me. If it happens to me when Im in the boat it would happen to him and he would never have any idea. no matter where you buy the boat from it will not have a warranty unless new so if something happens and it can and more than likely will in every case. buying anything that is not new is always a gamble.

Go for it it's only 3g's and about 23ft of 1700+ lbs.
Not something I would enjoy around the lake in shallow water at the beach.
