1966 johnson 6hp cdl-23e
So I've had this engine for about a year and I've replaced most of the parts including the whole magneto. One problem that I've stumbled across is when I use either Sierra or recmar condensors they work for a couple of hours and then fail. Some have even not worked out of the box. I've been using the original condensors that were in the engine from 1966 and they work great and have not failed at all. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem before
Thanks

I've been using Vishay .22mf 850 volt capacitors and they work well. I clean out the old case with a series of drills and once empty I drill a small hole in the bottom of the case and fit the new capacitor into the case and fill with epoxy.

Or if you don't want to go to the trouble of mounting them in the case:

I was wondering about using just a regular capacitor and see how it would run. I will give this a go and run the engine. To be honest anything is better than these aftermarket condensors. Thanks for the help, appreciate it

Unless the package is marked made in Turkey they can be prone to fail.
