Air filter question.

My outboard is a 1981 Johnson Seahorse 75.Can anybody tell me if when I take the plastic air box cover off I should find a filter of some kind(paper ,gauze etc)or will it be empty.<br />Thanks to everybody on this very helpful forum,great stuff.<br />The grateful boater.
