AIR SILENCER? 1976 JOHNSON 35 HP 35376S

I have an air silencer but no type of filter inside of it. What is the purpose of the silencer? I thought it was to filter the air before going into the carburetor. Thanks.

the air silencer is does exactly what its called. its a muffler for the intake so to speak. no need for an air filter on the water....no dust there.

You don't run into much dust and dirt on the water. The silencer is just that a silencer.
