Alarm broken. How bad is opening up controls?

1975 Evinrude 50hp. Alarm stopped working suddenly (no more chirp when the key is turned on). I tried grounding the temp wire to the block and still nothing. I don't want to run the boat without the alarm, but how hard is it going to be to open up the control box and get everything back together? I'm scared to even fool with it because the boat is running fine and the water pump works, but you never know. Any suggestions on what to expect? By the way, what is the connector on the control with the 3 pin hook up? I couldn't find it in the parts diagram. Thanks all!

the connector is a connection for a tach. the control is not bad, but pay close attention, taking it appart, so it can go back together. watch the neutral detent ball and spring , it's easy to loose.
