Alarm coming from remote control

Today I was out in my boat and about one hour into the trip on alarm went off from the remote control.Does anyone know what this could be.The motor is a 40 hp with vro thats been disconnected. At least I thought it was all disconnected.Is this the vro alarm???

It could also be an overheat alarm or low oil alarm. the overheat will give a continuous sound while the low oil will beep every couple of minutes. The olw oil sender has been known to short and sound an alarm continuosly.

low oil alarm is a beep every 30 seconds. beep......................beep...................

no oil alarm is a beep every 1/2 second or so.beep,beep,beep

overheat alarm is a constant beep.beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

model # E40ELCOB 1985 It went off in the remote control unit.It lasted about 1minute.I turned the motor off and it was still going off ,about another minute and it went out.
