Sometimes when I am cruising a long way at full throttle an a slow beeping comes from the throttle control (I think, it was last season). How do I figure out if this is a majour problem. The cooling water is always flowing well, so I don't think its overheating. Any help is appreciated as I am new to all of this.

Generally,a steady buzzer is overheat, and a on off buzzer is low oil warning. Do you have the autoblend oiler on that engine or is the oil tank mounted under the engine cowling?

It's a gas oil mix so it must be an overheat signal. It only comes on at high speeds for long times, but it's not consistent. Generally if I slow down it stops and then I can speed up again. Also, I can see that the water outlet is staying steady at high speeds.

At low speeds or trolling, the water stops coming out or just turns to mist. If I rev it a bit and then slow down the water starts coming out again. Maybe the impeller is shot?

Yep, that's the impeller turning with the fins broken away so the little stubs left over are enough to pressurize enough water unless idleing or at WOT. Change it out and you'll be back to normal cooling. :)
