Does anyone know if any gas stations in MI sell alcohol-free gas other than marinas)? Thanks. Jerry s

If no alsohol free gas is available in MI what do folks with old motors do to protect fuel lines, seals, etc.

Pray ... and be prepared to replace stuff as necessary. The problems are more to do with phase separation and water than damage to soft parts, although some motors may be more affected than others.

Wilde1j's comment about phase separation is of interest. Actually I am a little surprised that the formulators can get 10% ethanol into the gasoline mixture in the first place. Is an emulsifier used? Or could I use one to stabilize the ethanol/gas solution.

There really shouldn't be any non alcohol resistant parts in the fuel system of a motor being used today. I say this because the parts that deteriorate from alcohol tend to get brittle and go bad after a decade or so even without it, meaning that these parts should have already been replaced as normal maintenance long before now.

It was in the mid 80's when motors started using alcohol resistant parts and all rebuild kits since then use them also. So if its been 20 plus years since you replaced fuel lines and carb parts, its about time to do it.

We were one of the first places in the US to start using E-10 and while I would rather not use it, it hasn?t really created many problems.

It doesn't stay mixed more than a few weeks, especially in boats, which often sit at rest for weeks at a time, unlike cars, which are typically moved almost every day. Wait till we have E15, which the EPA is pushing for!
