!986 - 2.5 with a alfa 1 drive. drive had a leaky bellows that left water into the boat along with getting into the drive. I changed the bellows along with the gimble bearing and put it back together without the alignment tool. it slid right together. the leak is fixed and changed the gear oil but I have a growling noise that is coming from the area of the drive. I will tell you that the noise started about the time I found the bellow issue. I thought the noise was the gimble bearing but that's new. is it possible that the drive be mis aligned and still go together and that be causing my noise. and its a loud growl.

Probably ujoints. They don't survive long running in water.

You *should* always check alignment when you pull the drive. However it probably is not the cause of your growl.

With water in the drive you now need to pull the drive apart, clean, inspect and maybe rebuild or replace. Water and bearings do not mix. Could also be the U-joints. My guess is a new SEI drive may be the way to go. With water in the drive, did you replace the top drive shaft seal?

No I did not replace the driveshaft seal . I fixed what appeared to be bad and rolled the dice on the rest. the u-joints felt tight and smooth so I figured they were fine , maybe not? The boat realy is not worth a new drive ,just trying to make it thru the season then probly sell for parts or scrap.

If that's the case....just run er till she dies. Then at least you will know what the growling was all about. Just a suggestion, stay close to the launch...
