When I pulled the drive off I found that the P.O. had patched a 1/2" dia. hole with JB in the outer flange of the upper gear housing where it meets the bell housing just above the shift cable area. (He had probably used a screw driver to pry it off). My question is does the outer flange need to have a water-tight seal? The surfaces meet and there is a thin gasket between them, but I can't tell if it is water-tight. It looks like the seal occurs at the end of the U-joint housing.
