I installed the new lower shift cable and bellows, ran the boat on muffs, and now I am getting a small trickle of water at the linkage.

I just pulled the outdrive and of course the "O" ring wasn't there. I will be going to get a new gasket and "O" ring tomorrow. Thank you for your feedback !

I put 2-4-C on the "O" ring to keep it in place but as you can see, that didn't work. Is there a better way to keep it in there while installing the outdrive?

you can put a few dabs of bellows adhesive on it and let it set up. That and also some on the large black round gasket that goes in the bellhousing to seal the drive when you reinstall it.
