alpha drive water pump help

hello again every one, merc 5.7 gets the cooling raw water from a belt driven pump not from the pump in the outdrive. nwo this is the ?? does the pump in the drive has to be working .

i was told it has to be working to helps cool the drive/ your thought guya thanks

No, usually they all have burned up impellers anyway.
If you take the impeller out, leave the rest, water will circulate thru the top of the drive just by the water pressure at the pickups.
If you do a lot of long runs on plane, it might be a good idea to use something like the drive showers, but in most cases, if you use the oem gear lube and it stays green after 100 hours or a year which ever comes first, you have no problems.

thanks don, i will relay this to my friend, but knowing him , he might just let the mec install a new one, the one in it now is only a season old.
