So I guess I got away easy with today's run compared to things I seen on this forum. The Delaware River had a lot of brush and bits of logs/limbs...of course the one I didn't see was the problem child. I knew I hit a decent size whatever based on the thud, but since there were no signs of any crazy vibrations, I thought I was good.
Got back to the ramp, pulled the boat out and surprise, surprise. Weird thing is that there is no signs of damage to the prop (stainless steel - 1, aluminum - 0). No other signs of damage/cracks on the rest of the drive, bell housing, etc.

Got some questions -
1. Any recommendations for reputable places to purchase a replacement?
2. Is there any harm to continue using the stern drive with this damage? I realize that there may be some performance issues since it's like losing part of a wing.
3. Would this just be a straight up lower unit replacement?
4. Should there be any other concerns?

This was great way to start the season.

As the missing section is on the 'upward swing' side with respect to the propeller, you shouldn't notice any difference. I would take the drive off, split it and take the lower to a prop shop, or a good aluminium welder. They should be able to fix it up as good as new. (minus the paint job, but I think you can handle that. ;))

As for continuing to use as is, I can't see any reason not to.

I'd weld that up and finish it up in an hour or so - if you were in northern Idaho. Not a bad thing to repair. Just aluminum.
