Re: Alpha One/5.7L, Tricky Trim problems

Dont know how to thank both of you enough. Im going to check continuity in the morning. If that fails I am going to open the trim switch and see if I can adjust it, or clean it. Likely I need a new switch.

No my down button still works at the control, just not my up button.

Trailer buttons also work.

On the old systems you had to hold the top and middle buttons to raise the drive. Doubting you have it but I'd be wrong not to mention the old and new alike. Keying up or down works the solenoid so I don't think your solenoid is shot. IMO anyway. There's another trim cut out some where....

You say it works in the trailer position... what control box are you using? Perhaps there is only a two position switch. Is the trailer button on the handle? That's a Merc Control 300 if so right???

3 button panels don't have a button marked "Trailer".. All Mercruiser controls with the trim controls in the box have 2 buttons, one is the UP/DOWN toggle switch on the throttle lever and the other is the 'Trailer' button, some 'Trailer' buttons are directly under the UP/DOWN toggle and some are on the control box, but away from the lever.

As the OP said the 'Trailer' switch we can assume he DOESN'T have a 3 button panel... After that, it doesn't matter which control he has, the circuits and the fix are all the same....

try not to bypass the trim limit switch.
its there as a SAFTY function. after the trim limit is hit the drive no longer has side to side suppurt frol the transom shield and can snap off upper and lower swivel points.
its there for a REASON.

I am not going to be doing any Bypass, im definitely going to fix it right. So this morning I did a continuity test like instructed and for whatever reason it showed continuity for a second, then nothing. The light blinked and then that was all she wrote. Tested it again and nothing. My trailer button also stopped working for a few minutes, weird? it took lowering the motor a bit to get the trailer button to work. Is that a sign of anything?

Re: Alpha One/5.7L, Tricky Trim problems

I had the exact same problem but luckily I was getting ready to replace bellow so I changed the trim limit and sending switches while I was at it. I actually probably didn't need to. I just did not know how to adjust the trim limit switch. It's a two person job. Follow the manual. I think it is as follows:

1. put lower unit in full/in position

2. rotate trim limit switch clockwise or counterwise. lol not sure which way it was.

3. Then with someone holding the trim up button you rotate the trim switch in the opposite direction until it is trimmed to the specified point in the manual. It will tell you how many inches the cylinders should extend.

4. Then trim up should work. I unfortunately was just not adjusting it properly.

Last thing I still have wrong it my trim gauge is still not working.

hope this helps
