Can I use the lower of of a different ratio out drive. My ratio is 1:47 and the lower end housing is beat up. I found a 2:00 out drive and was curious if i can just swap out lower ends or is part of the ratio gears in the lower end. Would i have to swap out internal parts to use the new lower end housing?

the lowers use the same ratio so it should work, as long as there are the same generation and serial number range, MC-1, R/MR/Alpha one, or gen 2

if you post the serial numbers of both drives, they can be matched to know for sure

Are you sure it's a 2.00:1 and not a 1.94:1 (or 1.98:1)... There is a difference.The 2.00:1 lower housing uses a 14:28 gearset (and 24:24 in the upper). The 1.47 use a 13:21 lower gearset... If you put the 2.00:1 lower unit on a 1.62:1 upper, you'll end up with a 2.00:1 drive, not a 1.62:1...

Existing drive is SN: OL102602
Might be OL19…. Or OL18…. Or OL16….. its very hard to see it clearly.
Drive ratio is 1.478

Donor drive is 0M484223
Drive ratio 2:00

My decimals are the way they are because that the way they look on the drive. On the existing drive its very faded.

As long as they are both Gen 2 lowers they are going to be interchangeable. Ratios are the same. Only difference I know is is the '98 and newer Gen 2 lowers have a different style "quick connect" type fitting for the speedometer pitot. You then just buy the newer style connector for $8 and your good to go.

0L192602, 0L182602 both come up as gen 2 drives, as well as the donor drive 0M484223

0L162602 comes up as a bravo drive, do you know if both drives are alpha gen 2's??

The 0L16.... is probably not the correct number then, its definitely not a Bravo.
So is there a difference in the lower gear ratio between 0L192602, 0L182602?

Were can i find the specific info on ratios from the provided serial numbers?

Thank you in advance

nope, they are both gen 2's and should work fine

just be sure to pressure test the new setup before filling with lube

Hmmm... I think I'd like to hear what achris has to say..... I am trying to understand his earlier post, and what I get out of it is that the 2.00 drive has an upper with a 1:1 ratio (24teeth-24teeth), but the 1.478 drive does not have an upper with a 1:1 ratio (the gearing of the lower in a 1.478 is 13teeth/21teeth which would end up with a gear ratio overall of 1.62 if used in a 2.00 upper. By that, if you use a 2.00 lower in a 1.478 upper, then I dont know what the final gear ratio would be (would not be 2.00 or 1.478 by this argument).

Okay let me rephrase that last message.

Is there a difference in the lower gears from the existing ( 0L192602, 0L182602) and the donor (0M484223).

Donor are the first two pics
rest of pics are from existing unit

According to Achris' post, the two drive's lowers have different gearing.

thats what it sounds like but i though with the serial number someone was confirming the specs.

As it sounds like i can not swap lower ends and i will need to swap internal parts from each lower end to keep the good housing with existing gears

i thought someone was confirming the gear specs based on the serial numbers.

As it stand it sound like i will have to swap out lower end internal parts if i want to use the newer and in better shape lower end housing.

How hard it that to do, providing i have the correct manuals and tools.

I have been getting a lot of error messages and messages says admin has been notified and flagged for something.

So how can I find out the gear (tooth count) from the gear in the lower unit. I took the donor upper unit apart and everything looks clean except that the shaft and u-joint wont turn. So i can count the teeth of the upper unit gears but..... Is there a way to confirm the lower unit gear
