Alpha One question on lower end

I can confirm, using the serial numbers, that the gearsets in the lower housings are DIFFERENT.... The gearset in the 1.47:1 lower housing is 13/21 and in the 2.00:1 housing are 14/28.... The upper set in the 1.47:1 housing are 22/20, so if you put the 2.00 lower with the 1.47 upper the final ratio will be 1.81:1....

Gotcha. I was crossing my fingers a good deal on the used outdrive would work. As I keep reading swapping out the internal parts from each drive is not a DIY project is it.

We've just had a software upgrade and things are a little bumpy at the moment. Even when you get that error message, your post was recorded. Just hit the 'refresh' and you'll see it. In the meantime, we've deleting as many of the duplicate posts as we find...

Yep, Thank you for the schooling. I'm still learning and thank you for cleaning up my mess (posts). I pulled off my existing lower unit and put them next to each other and simply marked the shafts and slowly spun them and it was obvious that they are not geared the same.

Is swapping out intenal parts on the lower end something a DIY person can do?

My existing unit only had four bolts holding it together.

Swapping out the gears will require a full re-shim... DIY? yes, but only if you have several hundred dollars worth of shimming tools....

Thank you for the specs/info. Thats the info that satisfies me and my curiosity. I dont mind investing into tools that i would use else were but the shim kits probably not.

Correct, only used to shim those drives....
