Re: Alpha one shifting issue

I ran over and picked up the stainless steel washer and the rubber washer that goes underneath for a couple bucks. Put the lower back together and pumped new fluid into the drive and double checked the two shift shafts where mated together correctly and everything looked good. Went to fire the boat and found the starter was unable to turn the motor and it was torquing as if something was binding. Come to find out the drive is Fk'd  Pulled the whole drive off and found it to be bound up.....

what do you mean bound up? was the drive ok before you started this project? just curious because im trying to learn and work through a lot of the same issues. i think i may have the same gap between those shift shafts (will check later it poring). i also forgot the washer and the second time i reassembled is when i started to have shift problems.

When trying to start the engine it just torques and does not rotate. When I bench tested the lower half of the drive everything checked out as it should. Once the lower half was mated with the upper half of the gear box it would not longer lock cw in reverse. The I pulled the whole drive and it fired right up. At this point I think the upper gear box is bound up.
