That was what we call "mud" it`s aluminum power corrosion that gets wet and dries into a hard mud preventing full reverse travel. It gets jammed inside the slide every time you go into reverse gear building up to where you cant get into reverse. Sometimes ,you can remove the setscrew, cable core and clean the cavity with a drill bit.

Yeah, wish I could've just allowed myself to be satisfied with the minimum, getting her to shift, but it was clear the rest of the drive required the maintenance immediately. Still had the original "barely there" shift shaft bushing too, seal gone. Upgraded to new version with dual seals. The lower bushing included with the kit was oversized, don't know why, so retained the original. Maybe later shafts were also thicker.
My setscrew's head wasn't an Allen anymore, and the cable core though it seemed fine had a grande total of 1 wrap in the end that was half rusted through --glad to catch it now.
I got a new shift arm because my old one's roller bushing was chipped around the bottom edge, but then the replacement, generic, had a shorter roller bushing anyway, kind of negating the replacement. Wonder if the Qs replacement is the same, or the generic just uses a common bushing available. I get many parts from the dealer, but like they say themselves, some of these Quicksilver parts are just marked-up exorbitantly because the distro knows you've got no other choice if you want those important pieces fast.. especially with our barely-here Summers of New England, waiting takes FOREVER.
