So I went to install my new seal and found that there are three small ears on the bore below the bushing which I did not replace. So the seal would not install from below going up into the housing. I then filed the ears off and coated the bore and seal with perfect seal. It is correctly seated now but I don't feel good about it. I'm concerned it might fall down over time. The number 6 manual is very veague at best on the procedure. Please advise the correct procedure. The outside of the seal is rubber where it meets the bore. I read on Jr marine to use loctite but that was a Bravo drive. I'm gonna stop for the night. Thanks so much guys.

Bravo and Alpha instructions are the same when it comes to installing this seal. loctite 271 (red) is what you need. Perfect seal is not what the manual recommends

might want to consider adding the missing grease fitting to prevent rust and corrosion of the seal and pin

I have the top drilled out square shaft that the grease travels down to the center of the bushing. Will that be ok Doc?

post some pics, not familiar with that type. but to be able to grease the bushing the square shaft must have a hole so grease can come out of it??????

You lucky to have that type, no need to add a fitting with that style

I called henkel tech line and they state that 271 is not good for rubber or below the water line. He said to seat it with. You ready...3m 5200. Lol
