I am looking to purchase a project boat to work on over the winter.

What I am trying to find is the capacity (horsepower) that the various drives can sustain, plus the bolt up capability of the various bell housings.

I do know that it is better to find a boat with the engine size I want to end up with but is there somewhere that will tell me for instance if I buy an Alpha *&^% what is the maximum that I can bolt up to it in HP and what engines will bolt up to it.

Re: Alpha vs Bravo and engine capacity

Rule of thumb is 300 hp limit for an alpha.
As far as I know, late models are all GM SBC bolt pattern.
