Alternator application question

I have a 1990 Mercruiser 3.0L engine. I need an alternator for it as mine has a sheared mount on the housing. I have a chance at (for free), two used alternators but they are from different year model engines, so i was hoping the many 'boating genius' minds on this forum could help me with selecting the correct part. The first one i could get is a from a 79 merc, 140, but the label is gone so cannot see a part number. The second one has been removed from engine but believe it to be from a 120, the Merc P.N on this is, #805884P Its a 65A Alternator and the vendor p.n is #AC165610. I hope someone can help me, the basic mounting pattern, and pulley diameters look the same, but my main concern is if the wires will interconnect with my engine harness. Thanks in advance for any replies.:)

You have them all in your hands and can't tell if they are the same ?

Actually i think they are all the same, use the 65a one. The only thing i can think of that would be different is the external fan, that you can change off your old one.

Cheifalen just answered it pretty much, i guess if there is an unanswerable question he's the guy to ask.................................:D

As for do i have them in my hands??... no. The one is a freinds in OK, he sent me a picture of, and the second belongs to a customer of mine still fitted to the engine about 500 miles away. I simply wanted to know more or less if the alternators were interchangeable between the 4 pot-er's of different hp and year models. They all look to have the similar mounting points and pulleys. Im just questioning the wiring differences, if any. Thanks for the reply's.

Ayuh,.... I've taken Several Azz chewings answering questions with lines like that 1.....

As for the History of Alternators on 3.0l merc motors over the last 40-odd Years,...
There have been Several used,....
A 1979 Might fit on a 1990,.. And wire up,....
But,.....
That's a Bet that I wouldn't take.....

The reason I see your original post as Unanswerable is,...
Most of Us here don't have ready access to part #s, without taking the time to run through parts lookups online....
In order to answer as many Questions from the largest # of Posters,...
I ain't gonna spent a 1/2hr. or More looking up what You can lookup Yourself.....
Don has a Crystal Ball,+ a working knowledge of the motors,+ the inside resources for finding these things,...
I don't....

That's Why I asked More Questions, rather than take a Shot in the Dark.....;)

And a good man you are for that sir, i (being in the field of aftersales product support), also have learned my lesson for guessing. ;)

As for my alternator, i think ill get the 65amp one and try it, what the hek, if it won't work i can get it rebuilt and im sure i can wire it up simply enough to my engine. Thanks for the reply's. :)
