I have a 97 225 Yamaha and I just noticed that when I accelerate and check the Bat mode that it does not increase the voltage when the engine speed increases. I keep the boat in a lift and have a 3 stage charger that floats the batteries. When I was out I noticed that I had 12.4 volts and that was what I started with. I have starting batteries installed and I just checked my friend's boat that has deep cycle bats and his voltage increases when he accelerates. Should my voltage increase on starting bats as well ? Re: alternator question

yes,
you have a charging system issue.
depending on what model 225,without a model number all I can say is several versions were avalible in 97,
your voltmeter should stay between 13.4 and about 14.8V anytime the engine is running.
post a model number and I may be able to be more specific.
