Hi guys. I have found something locally.
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-boats-watercraft-powerboats-motorboats-16-Foot-Aluminum-Starcraft-Bowrider-boat-motor-trailer-W0QQAdIdZ203148167

Let me tell you first that to find aluminum bowrider in Ontario is almost imopossible. I have found one for 2000 without motor, but in great shape and with new trailer - it was gone in 45 minutes. Another one with motor, but on worse trailer, also in great shape was gone in 2 hours. Amd I am talking about 250 km radius of my search. I physically cannot get there fast enough.

I went to take a look at this one that was listed for 1900. The lowest the guy wants to go is 1500. So lets assume it is 1500. The motor did not run for 2 years, it is 75, not 65 as the ad says. The prop is chipped (it is missing a chunk of size of the quater), the motor was not winterized. To me it is as good as boat anchor.
The floor is bad and needs replacment, transom is good, no seats.
Trailer is obviously oversized and has car tires on it, however in decent shape. It does not have any lights to it as well.
I liked the condition of the hull, it was very nice and no damage at all.
I realize that it is a lot of work, just want to bounce ideas around.

I would like to spend max 3000 all together.

i think 15 is borderline for that boat... alot would depend on how well the motor ran. outboards dont really need to be winterized per se, and the prop is an easy fix (replacement)

but if you say they are REALLY hard to find there, then i say go for it.. a new deck and seats is a pretty easy job.

Based on the availablity and prices of boats up your way I'd say BUY IT BUY IT!!!!

If you're concerned, do a compression test on the motor. If that's good, everything else is fixable. Nice boat.

What do you think about the trailer? Is it too big, or I can still use it? Also what about car tires on this trailer?

They can be hard to find.

I just paid 1500 for something smaller without a motor.

Worst case, even if you have to buy a used motor and a bit of material and labor to fix it up you still won't have over paid.

You'll also have a boat you can sell easy.

no worries about the trailer, as long as the boat fits on nicely...

I do not think I will get that one. Somebody is coming to look at it today before me, it will be gone.

Unless a trailer is absolute junk it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

Light kits on sale = $20.00

Wheel bearing kits = $15.00 a side

Car tires while not the best choice will be fine for a light boat like that if they are in good shape.

Last fall, I bought the same boat, needs a floor and seats, no motor or trailer, $400

What I have found, it that with the economy continuing to sink, the boat prices have too.
People are hanging on to the old boats, rather than selling them for a few hundred.
There isn't much to pick from this spring.

You might try running an ad, saying "Wanted to Buy". Maybe it will get someone to contact you, before they list their boat to the public.

Re: Aluminum bowrider, opinions needed

Well, I am 99.99% sure it is gone.
I tried WANTED ads, but I need to post them every hour (in my list I get over 30-40 ads PER HOUR in boats section), so people will see it.
I have found one in North Bay (about 350 km away), that was 16 ft SS on brand new trailer. The boat was in excellent shape but no motor. the guy was asking 2000 for it. I called and said that i was coming to pick it up. He said he will wait for me. I got myself off work, got my wife off work. We were getting in the truck when the guy called and said it was sold - somebody from next street came in gave money and picked up the boat. I was pissed.

There was another ad ofr 2200 for similar boat, also in great shape with 70 hp evenrude in good shape. There were no phone number, so I sent like 10 emails to the guy. He finally replied 4 days later that he is available this Friday to view it. I called him withing 2 hours of his reply and he said there is somebody coming to see it already and he promised to keep it, so I can be only second if first guy does not take it. I offered him 3000 for it. he called the first guy and first guy came right away and handed him 3000. So i am screwed again. But at least I kinda screwed first guy a bit, that he had to pay more ;)

Very frustrating.
I will keep looking.

Have you thought about going across the border?

Re: Aluminum bowrider, opinions needed

I have checked 300 km from border and see that prices are lower there by maybe 500 most, that does not justify the 1000 km on my truck (say it is 50 cents per km including gas = 500 dollars). So the price difference has to be closer to 1000, which in my case, will mean boat in excellent shape for max 2000.

Oz, not sure if you have or not, but check out UsedToronto or UsedOttawa websites. I bought my first boat of UsedOttawa. Usually get some great deals if you lurk around those sites.

Good luck on your boat hunting experiences.

I have UsedToronto, Kijiji, Craigs List, US Craigslist and some smaller sites monitoring about 5-7 times a day at least. I think it is already Starcraftmania.
