Aluminumun Salt Corrosion

I have been progressing well in restoring my Alumacraft 15'. The outer sides above the spray rails had some pretty bad corrosion ( non of which has perforated the aluminum) which I removed with sandpaper beginning with 80 grit progressing up to 1500 grit. I have then buffed it out with brown tripoli and got quite a mirror finish. The inside is also bad above the spray rail rivet line.(The bottom of the inside was factory painted and the corrosion did not affect it) I don't want to take the inside surface down as far as I did the outside. I am considering painting the inside above the spray rail rail rivet line. Will this corrosion continue if left alone or covered with a paint or clear laquer?

Thanks

corrosion doesnt just go away. its like rot, you have to treat it first then remove it. If not it will continue to eat away whatever its affecting.

I have removed most is not all of the pitting by sanding and polishing the outside. I do not want to remove much more on the inside as I do not want to thin the aluminum too much. Before I began I washed the entire hull with an aluminum coil cleaner which is also labled for trailers and pontoons and is supposed to remove tarnish and stop corrosion. I would like to believe this.

Thanks

well with my experience with corrosion, it doesnt stop. it needs to be removed and then rust inhibitor applied. i am not sure how the aluminum hulls work. but with other metals that is the only way to stop it. if not the corrosion keeps gioing and flakes whatever you put over it. wether it be paint or whatever. But maybe try it out?? If it were me though i would go with the tried and proved method of just removing it. How thin are you making it?
