I am not young, but I have to say, since HD an Lowes opened, I have never expected to get any customer service, that is not the purpose of a warehouse store, never has been.

I went to Home Depot and said to the guy in lumber, "I need some 2 x 4s."
He said, "How long do you need them?"
I said, "I guess forever. I'm building a house."

lol

A few years back I replaced my brake shoes on my old truck, went down to the autoparts store (autozone), asked for rear brake shoes, nice fella at the counter let me know there were 3 different size choices, so I went home to pull one side off and brought it back down.

I got another fella at the counter, I told him what I needed, and placed one of the shoes on the counter.. he asked me
"you need more than one right??"

I stood there and looked at him stunned for a second, not sure if he was kidding... nope dead serious... whole line behind me giving him the same look...

So I replied "Nope, I only need to stop once!"

Whole line behind me started cracking up, I ended it in the honor of Bill "Here's your sign"

Guy behind the counter blushed, laughed at him self and apologized, long night or something

Visited HD yesterday ... there was a sales consultant in about every aisle. They could not have been more helpful. 4 check-outs open plus the customer service area and the contractors counters and 4 self checkouts. A very good experience, as usual. I guess HD varies between managers. Our HD has been great everytime ... not the feel of a big warehouse store.

My usual HD usually has at least a "contractor" register open, and always several self-checkouts, and if I'm lucky, a regular cashier lane or two.

But this is one of my pet peeves. I won't use them. I figure if I'm giving them my money, the least they can do is have a human take it. You're being a little outrageous? I don't think so. I applaud your actions, littlerayray.

I'm 45, I do hate self-check out, HD & especially Wally World. I try to use my local ACE as much as possible. Why?
Because one time I was in there getting some stuff, the manager see's my son (he's 6) helping me count out nylon washers. (Can't have those SS screws touching my aluminum!) The manager walks up & hands my son a little Football full of candy, when asked why the manager said because he was being so helpful.
Another time, same store I get to the register & find out I left my wallet at home, no problem he rang me up & I called him when I got home & gave him my card #.
I doubt that would ever happen at the Box stores.

Thats the kind of service i miss

people think they are getting a better price for their stuff if staff is untrained and just their to stock shelves.
truth is a business will be busier if they have true customer service with real checkouts.
i buy all my lumber and hardware at a local lumber store, they let me pick out my own lumber, they load it on my truck or deliver it
and their prices are better then the big box stores.
so big box stores are eliminating jobs and still keeping prices high where is the justification in that
