Re: Am I missing something here?

SS, I did not say we were lucky to be free, I said we are lucky to be alive. I have a very good understanding of why we are free. It is not because we are feminine appeasing wimps with no will to be free.

When I made this statement, I was speaking directly to Merc. If you served during war, then you are also lucky to be alive. Nobody is smarter than a bullet they did not see coming. If it missed, it was luck.

Re: Am I missing something here?

In 1942 we did the ultimate racial profiling.

We rounded up all persons of Japanese heritage, including second and third generation Americans, and stuck them in concentration camps.

One of the most shameful events in our history, along with the genocide of native Americans and defacto slavery for 100 years after the slaves were freed. All racially profiled crimes against humanity. We executed a lot of Nazis for crimes against humanity.

We are not at war with a race or a religion. We are at war with terrorists. Racial profiling is an act of hysteria.

Aren't there any Americans left with the guts to honor our values and fight the war, too?

I don't think that anyone here is suggesting that we send Arabic Muslims, in the US, to concentration camps JB. But considering the perpetrators of all of the evil deeds that have been listed only a fool would not take a little closer look at them and give the grannies at the airports a little bit of slack.

Gee whiz CJY, get a life. My comments were meant as a "generality". If you are so deeply offended then maybe the shoe fits.

You do not know me, what I do, or what I stand for. Yet, you have made a giant effort to discredit me and my "perceived" views. All taken from one post. You took it upon yourself to flame me in many. IMHO, that's a liberal approach.

This "offense" that seems to be so popular in this country is just what I'm talking about.

As for racial profiling.

JB, I know you. You are NOT a terrorist. You do not even come close to fitting even a loose description of those that perpetrated a terrible deed on this country. Yet, you will be dragged out of line at the airport. Why? Because we could not possibly risk offending someone that DOES fit a profile. Now I know why you prefer to drive. ;) :D

I agree that what we did to the Japaneses was wrong. Yet, we were terrified, as a nation. We KNEW the Japanese to be evil heathens for their treatment of the Chinese. Not only that but the dasterdly (cowardly) act they committed at Pearl. We later found out at Bataan just how nasty they were. We NEVER treated our POW's anywhere near that way.

We were on the brink of a WORLD WAR. Suspicions were high. My father in law (a German National) was not treated much better.

To repeat. You JB do not even come close to the description. Neither does my mother or my eight year old nephew, yet, they are pulled out of line-frequently. It's ABSURD.

Re: Am I missing something here?

I am not trying to discredit you. You are the only one that can do that. You have made an unfounded statement that offends me and probably more people than are willing to admit it. It is perfectly ok to offend me with your opinion. Afterall, this is America. Just don't expect me to sit back and take it. It is hard for me to believe that an American could say such a thing knowing soldiers die daily. I understand you dislike being politically correct or any pressure to conform. However, it is my opinion, you are over the top with this statement. When you make such a statement with the conviction and vigor with which it was made, sometimes you have to expect a reply with the same conviction and vigor.

Just to let you know, the shoe does not fit. That is the reason for my reaction.

Re: Am I missing something here?

Your argument has merit, DJ, but:

What profile did Timothy McVeigh fit?

Yes, we were hysterical in 1942 and too many of us are hysterical now. FWIW, my nisei BIL was in the famous 442nd RCT and earned a Silver Star in Italy. His parents and siblings spent the war in one of those camps.

If mainly young middle eastern males are targeted for examination, what's to prevent the baddies from recruiting misguided caucasian, African, Asian and/or Hispanic persons or creating disguises for their regulars?

It sure was a lot easier for Roy Rogers, wasn't it? All he had to do was look for the black hat. :D

Re: Am I missing something here?

JB,

It's deeper than that.

We should have a cursory look at EVERYONE. But, a mid eastern male carrying a backpack with fuses hanging out of his shoes should NOT a get a pass because of PC. He would, today.

McVeigh, was a nut. There is NO guard against that. Otherwise we're all, including you, especially you, (Texas Res., known firearm owner), a suspect. Me too, for that matter.

Besides, connecting McVeigh with 9/11 is a stretch, a REAL BIG stretch. That dog won't hunt.

Come on now, we KNOW who hates us, from the outside, we should at least have a look.

We have to have at least a semblance of a profile, for now. Searching my mom and my nephew isn't even CLOSE. Let's get somewhat real.

Unfortuneatly, those who hate us are now on the INSIDE with fake US ID's.

Our borders arer W-I-D-E OPEN for all to come in and DESTROY.

DJ,

Targeting people with fake or no id's is profiling. Don't go there.

Pointer,

I HOPE you are in jest.

Targeting people with fake or no id's is profiling. Don't go there.
Where did I say that?

If you don't have a valid ID, you don't go. Why do we have this BIG problem with someone ID'ing themselves. That's scary. I have to have an ID at the bank, at the DMV, at the health club, just not at the polling place????

Gee whiz, I can't get into Mexico without a valid ID. Why does it only work one way?

If I am caught in Mexico without the proper ID and "papers", I'm going to a Mexican jail, with little hope of help from the US. The cases, to prove the point, are too numerous to count.

I'm tired of the one way street.

You, Pointer, living in Janesville, WI are just about as far away as you can get, for NOW. Y'all enjoy the quaint little Mexican Restaurant and the Mexican families that have shown up. BY the way, CHECK THEIR ID's.

Here in AZ, WE'RE COVERED UP and it's headed your way.

Re: Am I missing something here?

CJY,
DJ didnt call me anything. He made a generalization that is being portrayed in the media and I agree that our society is becoming a bunch of feminized wimps. When someone makes a general statement like that and someone gets offended, it is usually because they are guilty of fitting the description.
His statement is not unfounded either. Have you watched the crap on TV lately? I only have the option of MASH reruns and sports if I dont want to see a main character that is a homo.
I dont want a pat on the back but dont sit back smuggly and acuse me of making my statements safe from home. I am not parading my friends sacrifice around as my own either. You act as if you know what that sacrifice means and say you are passionate about it but I couldnt possibly know the pain because I havent been wounded or killed? Your right that I dont know you, you dont know me either. You make a statement for DJ to say that to the families of soldiers as if you know what their response to it would be. That is what I meant by you not speaking for us.

Re: Am I missing something here?

DJ,

I am incapable of being anything but sarcastic with a post that short. :p The fact that you actually thought I was being serious is an indictment of how silly and grotesque this "rights" issue has become. Rights are usually self-evident, and usually based on common sense, but we create new ones everyday. Sad how citizens of this country have less rights than illegal immigrants, or people here on guest or political visa's. Someone smack me when the last liberal gets done with the new list of rights. How about this, I have the right to be safe. Work it out!!!!

Hang in there!!! ;)

Re: Am I missing something here?

McVeigh's connection with 9/11 is that he too was a terrorist who sought to kill a lot of innocent people, DJ. There are non-middle eastern, non-Muslim people inside the US that hate our government and are willing to kill innocents in some stupid idea that it will further their cause. That is all.

I agree: Everyone should be screened and those who meet certain criteria searched thoroughly. It seems unlikely that elderly women and children would meet any of those other criteria. I don't think "race" should be one of them.

Thirty-some years ago I was strip searched at O'Hare airport because I met a profile: traveling alone, dressed in denim, wore a beard, bought a one-way ticket for cash, was seen off by a covey of pretty young women who dressed like flower children (my daughters and their friends). I wasn't offended and they explained.

Hassles before and after the flight and unreliable schedules are why I don't fly any more, plus the fact that my flight to my Father's funeral was cancelled, leaving me standing alone in the cemetary hours later with my daughter. Modern air travel simply does not deliver, so I don't buy.

I cannot believe that a "no racial profiling" policy affects security personnel scrutiny except that they go through the motions to satisfy the policy. They are not stupid.
